I’ve an animals lust that I’d kill to discard
I’d entomb this affliction, not exhibit the scars
I’d love to just grow towards the sun and the heat
And be clear of this burden, this common repeat

I could anchor a hill, not destroy it for gold
I’d be greater with time, not just bitter and old

Time must have been a distinct aperture
When circles and spirals defined who we were
When my blood was the water, my heart was the dirt
Drawn in and wedded to your thirsty root

Now I wander the killing field and I never look up
With the sap and the blood flowing thick in our cup

Our lifetimes are flickers, just ripples in streams
Just the light behind eyelids, just brief little dreams

Just the flit of a wren between notes of a song
Just a shadow that passes as the light moves along
